I think this should be in the New Yorker. I have seen refugee camps but I never got to know a camp the way Nicholas Seeley did, and then he demonstrated an uncanny ability to let the reader be there as well. This isn't fiction but it could be because of the development of the characters Mohammed and Am'neh.

I wish millions would read this. And understand how war so affects the people caught up in it.

A Wedding that Will Haunt You.

I just finished reading "A Syrian Wedding," written by my son Nicholas Seeley, and available at Amazon.com as a Kindle Single for $2. I may be biased (okay, I'm biased), but this is quality writing that you don't often find for this price. It's nonfiction, and depicts the anguish--and the few joys--of life in Za'atari, the Syrian refugee camp in Jordan. It is not political, and yet it is because you can't escape the politics that forced this camp into existence.

If you consider yourself a student of the human condition you won't be sorry you bought this book. It's not long--about 35 pages--and it won't take long to readbut it will be with you far longer than you might expect.

You will long remember the marriage of Mohammad and Amneh. I expect you'll read it again.

Amazing Book, great peice of writting

Bob Rice does an amazing job at taking you in a time machince to Jesus time though St. Peter's eyes. It is written with amazing depth and detail. You can see that even for the apostles it was hard to follow Jesus. While reading you can tell the hard work that Bob put into this book. It is a great read and would make a great easter basket stuffer =)

Perfect for Lent and Holy Week

Bob Rice's "Between the Savior and the Sea" is a novelization of the public ministry of Jesus with a focus on St. Peter. It is not a theological treatise, although as Bob says, he based his story on solid theology. Neither is it private revelation, although it is faithful to the public revelation of the Four Gospels. Instead, what Bob has created is a narrative bridge that fills in the gaps of what the Gospels choose to tell us, creating a story that brings the truths about Christ and His apostles to us in new ways that are uniquely suited to a culture such as ours that consumes such stories for hours per day.

To be clear, Bob is not claiming that the way he depicts Jesus, Peter, Mary or any of the figures in the books is the way they actually were. "Between the Savior and the Sea" is undoubtedly *not* what really happened in the pubic ministry of Christ. But it *could* be what happened as nearly everything rings true to what Scripture and Tradition tell us.

"Between the Savior and the Sea" accomplishes what every work of Christian fiction should aspire to, namely that as I read it and when I was done I was brought closer to Christ, to His Church, and to His sacraments. At times, I was brought to the point of tears as I contemplated Christ's love and His sacrifices. Particularly moving was the scene in which Mary receives the Body of Christ from the cross and contemplates Him as the newborn baby He once was.

The focus on St. Peter is especially satisfying. I've always loved Peter because it is so easy to identify with him. Having been chosen by the Lord, Peter so obviously fails again and again, and yet manages to also express profound truths about the Lord. In his denial of Jesus, he's not quite like Judas in the depth of his betrayal, but even so he shows in his life the forgiveness that could have been Judas' had he not given into despair. Bob's depiction of Peter's soaring love for Christ, his self-doubt, his final thrust of himself at the mercy of the Lord all resonate with my own relationship with Christ. How often do I fall in to sin? Yet, even St. Peter failed the Lord at times and look at he got back up time and again to go forward for the Lord.

Some will be bothered by the colloquial language used by the characters in the novel as being too 21st-century American. Others will not like how one or another character does not live up to their own mental images of these people who are in many ways as much a part of our lives as our own families. It can be hard to let encounter someone else's interpretation of that person.

The research that Bob put into the book shows clearly. He went to the Holy Land and stood in the places he describes and in that way, we stand there too.

At the beginning of Holy Week, this is a perfect time to read this book. It will be good spiritual reading and nourishment for your contemplation of the Passion and Resurrection.

Inspiringly human

I finished "Between the Savior and the Sea" last night! Oh what a wonderfully human look into St Peter's (as well as the other apostles and Mary's) struggles as he follows our Lord!!! Sometimes when you read the Bible you think, well, God chose those people to do this or that, they can handle it...almost like superheros; they all were human just like you and me!!! And you captured that beautifully. Thank you for taking the time to write it, to share the story you found in your heart, I know its fiction but it does give a good window into the world at that time and another perspective.

About the Author
Marie Pasinski, M.D., is a staff neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and faculty member at Harvard Medical School, and one of the leading experts in the field of Neurology. Dr. Pasinski graduated Harvard Medical School and completed her residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Since 1991, she has been the consulting neurologist for the Massachusetts General Health Care Centers, where she cares for patients with a broad range of neurological symptoms and disorders.

Jodie Gould is an award-winning journalist and author of six books including Date Like a Man: To Get the Man You Want. As a former book publicist, Jodie has worked with numerous bestselling authors, including Barry Sears, Alan Dershowitz, Erica Jong and Gloria Steinem. A new way to view what is beautiful, that it's not just physical.

We've heard about Suduko and crossword puzzles and how they improve memory and brain function but this is a very well written and researched book about many more varied ways that we can maximize and improve our brains at any age. It sounds like it's for women but it applies and is just as pertinent to men so I would encourage men, husbands, male partners to read it too. I particularly like the refreshing concept that beauty is not just physical and also about maximizing intelligence and how that can increase your self esteem and the way you are perceived by others. Beauty is more than skin deep! Being a health care professional I was skeptical about whether it would teach me anything new but I was pleasantly surprised! More than anything, the author is extremely positive and encouraging so you enjoy reading the book and want to keep reading once you've started. Lastly, you can go back to it again and again to enhance your progress. My compliments to the author for an excellent and truly inspiring and instructional first book.

Excellent read for all women

This is an amazing book explaining that it is never to late to wake up our brains and and stay young. Many great ideas as to how to keep a sharp edge on learning and keeping our brains as "tuned" as we can keep our bodies. Very positive and uplifting, a "must" read for all ages
Hopefully this will not be her last book. She makes you want to read more and learn what an amazing thing our brain is and how we can make it better.

Very interesting!

WOW at the brain!! A fascinating topic! This book explains the brains impact on beauty. It's got a mixture or very basic things like how important sleep is and then adds to that by teaching you about your circadian rhythm and how to reset it.

Very well written. Sections are short and concise. Information is easy to follow, with examples of past patients, and information you can start implementing right away.

The ONLY thing I didn't like in this book, was the reference to the BMI system (body mass index system). It's an inaccurate system which no one should follow. It doesn't take in to consideration how much lean mass a person has verse fat, and well..it's just a fail!!

I'd recommend this to others, both male and females can get something from it - although it's written specially for females. It's also never to late or to early to start following some of the advice.

In this one, Wilson writes definitively, math/scientifically, and with sincerity of purpose. Don't get confused by the word 'theory.' There's as much math in here as Born and Wolf's P of O. The only diffenrence is Wilson's is much more algebra-based. The mathematics (i.e. isomorphs) is 'taught', without breaking the flow, and is not assumed that you know the stuff already--- or can find it somewhere else. This book stands out because there is more science in here than names of scientists, and his references are for real. I would also say it was unique because books with titles like 'Molecular Vibrations' are usually skipped over for titles like 'mechanics' or 'quantum theory.' Spectroscopy was a major advancement in science, and it is good to see it skillfully treated with enlightening clarity.

A MUST HAVE for those dealing with B matrix methods

This is the original work by E.B.Wilson where the G and F matrix formalism is presented. The G matrix, related to kinetic vibrational energy is built uppon the elements of the B matrix defined from "internal coordinates". Many quantum chemistry software packages use this exact methodology to build normal coordinates. For those working on Quantum Chem Molecular Orbital calculations, this book is a must.

About the Author
Clint C. Wilson II, Ed.D. is Graduate Professor Emeritous in the Howard University School of Communications where he teaches courses in communication, culture and media studies. He is a recipient of the Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism from the University of Missouri and the Lionel Barrow Award for Distinguished Achievement in Diversity Research and Education. He has lectured at academic symposia at colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad at Oxford University. Dr. Wilson is widely regarded among the nation's foremost scholars of the Black press and his book "A History of the Black Press" completed the unfinished work of the late African American journalism historian Dr. Armistead S. Pride. The book was cited as one of the 35 "most significant books of the 20th century" by Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly. He has authored or co-authored seven other books including "Racism, Sexism and the Media: Multicultural Issues Into the New Communiations Age" The Society of Professional Journalists honored that work with its 2003 Sigma Delta Chi Award for Excellence in Journalism Research. Dr. Wilson's professional journalism career includes work for various news media organizations including the Associated Press, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, St. Petersburg Times, USA Today.com and the Los Angeles Sentinel.

The Great Works of Clint C. Wilson II

The Book " Whither Black Press" seems to be an excellent documentary, rather than an untold story, of which I expected.
The story line started as an interesting experience, without the "citations" my thoughts of Clint's literary artistic talents where wasted on a commercial minded joint venture...like so many Literary Artist do. I say this to you and your editor's; "the black press is not Whitering away is just at a linguistic impasse, the black culture has to catch up with the New Millenniums language styles, which will enlighten the readers of Black Journalism. The book tells of successes and failures of the Black Press, and today, the folks that really would appreciate some solutions to the failed publications.
Sir; It's not about financial complexities, it's much about the Gut feelings of most black journalist, that are not allowed to tell the stories with the emotional input and grass-root languages.
