Very Dry. History as it should not be written

Mr. Hane has the facts, but the presentation is pretty much just a chronologic recital, without any interpretive depth. Pretty much, it's as elementary school history textbooks used to be written in the 1950's. Nobody will be offended, but everybody will be bored. There's no interpretation or unifying hypothesis/theme. The nicest thing one can say about it is it's rather pedestrian. Not recommended.

anticlimatic, no grandiose or sublime development or notion, not a single great line or paragraph. It seems a book on trees or bugs, not a book about such a people and country as Japan and the Japanese.

Two Very Enjoyable Reads

"Naturally Naughty" by Leslie Kelly (2002) is my introduction to her writing. I wouldn't normally go for a book that had the back cover blurb that this one had because it was about revenge, but I am already a Jill Shalvis fan, and this book is related to her book "Naughty but Nice."

I was very impressed with Leslie Kelly! "Naturally Naughty" was an easy, well written, enjoyable read. If you like a read with non-stop sex, this will not disappoint! I liked Kate and Jack and the chemistry between them and how much they learned about themselves, their families, and the town that they grew up in.

"Wicked & Willing" By Leslie Kelly (2003) sealed Leslie Kelly onto my list on authors. I will gleefully track down every one of her back list titles and read them in order now. I was moved by Venus a.k.a Violet's story of finding herself and finding love.

Naturally Naughty was a fun, quick read... but the 2nd one, Wicked & Willing, it a bit slow for me... and I really don't like the way the womans part is written. It's a bit hard to believe for me, but that's part of the reason we read these books... fantasy.

About the Author
Mary Kay DeGenova received her Ph.D. in 1992 from Purdue University in Child Development and Family Studies. She was an associate professor of Family Studies at Central Michigan University and the University of New Hampshire and has taught various courses on marriage and the family. Her work on this text is a direct result of her experience in the classroom and her experiences with diversity, including work as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa and a Fulbright Scholar in Chile. In addition to her recent work on this text DeGenova has written Families in Cultural Context: Strengths and Challenges in Diversity, published by Mayfield Publishing Company. She was written numerous journal articles, presented papers at many conferences, and appeared in anthologies. She is currently working from home on numerous writing projects while caring for her two children.

Nancy Stinnett has a masters from Oklahoma State University. She has been teaching classes on marriage, parenting, and general human development at the University of Alabama since 1987. Nancy has coauthored books on marriage and family with her husband, Nick, who she has been married to for 41 years. Nick and Nancy have 2 grown sons and 4 grandchildren and live in Northport Alabama.

F. Philip Rice received his Ed.D. in Marriage and Family Relationships from Teachers College of Columbia University. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Maine-Orono, where he taught courses i the field of Marriage and Family for many years. His principal areas of research include Human Development, Child Development, Adolescent Development, Adult Development, and Marriage and Family Relations.

Nick Stinnett received his PHD from Florida State University and has taught in the area of family studies since 1968. He currently teaches courses on marriage and family at The University of Alabama. Nick is a nationally and internationally recognized leader and researcher in the area of family strengths. In addition to his work on Intimate Relationships, Marriages, & Families, he is a coauthor with Nancy, his wife, and James Walters on Relationships in Marriage and Family, 5th edition, published by Pearson. He is also a coauthor, with Joe Beam, on Fantastic Families: 6 Proven Steps to Building a Strong Family, as well as Secrets of Strong Families, which he coauthored with John DeFrain.

Best for a 100-level Marriage/Family course

I was required to purchase this book for a 300-level Family Psychology course. However, this text would be a better fit for a 100-level "Marriage & Family" general education course. It is mostly full of statistics from studies chosen by the authors and does not include deeper analysis. I expect that a text for a 300-level course would be much more involved.

I think this book was perfect for the class we used it in. It went in depth on many topics and had some nice review topics. I als othought the layout was great. I reccomend this for any college student who wants to pursue working with families.

This book summarizes not only the background of Fudo Myo-o (or Acala), but presents many sample drawings and suggested styles and decoration elements. This enables for sketching the main parts of any horimono: back with buttocks, upper arms, and shoulder/breast. With this book, a clear concept can be created before meeting the tattooer, understanding his own concepts and creations. Highly recommended!

Nice concepts but you need a written plan

It's all about setting goals and believing them. He tells you how to use your subconscious to get the things you want. Of course, thinking and believing are important,but you need to take ACTION. It's a great start to making positive changes.

I think the book needs to have a clearer action plan rather than just theory. What will you do today and tomorrow to get to the goal. Every goal is achieved by small, deliberate steps. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. It's great to have a goal, but the action plan is what makes it real.

This book provides incredible insights into the ideas that can change your mindsets it is an enjoyable read with many great nuggets of wisdom that can change how you think about money and the unfolding of your life. This book is more philosophy of becoming rich rather than practical application. Think of it as the knowledge portion that can propel you to take action but it all begins with you.
