She was born and raised in a conservative, strict Christian household in the bible belt of the USA. At the mature age of forty, she mustered up enough courage to share her thoughts and put pen to paper. She sincerely hopes to find her niche in writing romance in all forms, be it dark romance, romantic comedy, psychological thrillers or paranormal. She doesn't consider herself an author, rather an avid reader above all else, and someone who simply writes the stories that the characters in her head tell her to.

Continental Yumminess!!!

5+++++++++ AMAZING STARS!!! (I received this ARC for my honest review- THANK YOU ELLA) Continental Beginnings is the prequel to Continental Breakfast where we get to learn how Mr. Pettifor met Ms. Darcy and how their relationship began. I loved that this was all in Mr. Pettifor's POV, because in Continental Breakfast he came off as a little cold. However we find out why Mr. Pettifor behaves the way he does and we get his inner thoughts on Ms. Darcy. I just love the sweet things he says to Bella but sadly they are all in his head, but we get to see why he wanted their relationship this particular way because he was burned in the past.

This book starts off with the Mr. Pettifor searching for a new assist and we get to see that how he conducts Bella's interview is different than any other interview he has done. Ms. Darcy immediately fits his needs and goes above and beyond Mr. Pettifor's expectations. Ms. Darcy easily fits into a submissive role to Mr. Pettifor's dominate one. We also find out that Mr. Pettifor is a teacher of sorts at a submissive training school and we find that Mr. Pettifor starts to lose his normal knack for the student body because he has issues focusing with Ms. Darcy on the brain.

As the story progresses we see more of Ms. Darcy and Mr. Pettifor's interactions over their two year span together and how well, they fit together and we get the pieces to the puzzle of what Mr. Pettifor was really thinking when Ms. Darcy finally resigned. The book ends with Mr. Pettifor finding Ms. Darcy on the park bench and we finally have both parts to their story ending in the same place. Oh how I wish this book was longer!! I wish it was 500 pages because I swear these two need lots of page time. They complement each other perfectly and they need more time to completely let themselves open up about their true feelings. Awesome read, I cannot wait for more..... Just like Mr. Pettifor, I am HUNGRY.

From the moment Mr.Pettifor saw her he new he was in trouble, the only trouble was to just be with her. Everything about her was alluring and woke something in him. By day he is wealthy hard working businessman and in the evening he is the instructor of domestic discipline training center, as the Alpha male, woman are constantly bowing at his feet. At a crossroads Bella is entering a whole new world, in medical school and applies as a personal assistant to the domineering Mr.Pettifor, what was only and interview was so much more! The story is about Mr.Pettifor's a man who takes everything for granted and almost lost everything, at least everything that is important..love,adoration commitment..everything he has never had or will have if he doesn't stop being a jerk. Realizing he too is worthy of love he embraces it. As for Bella Darcy,shy,beautiful and submissive(a wonderful compliment to his dominant), she is flourishing and never knowing he had a secret life, only she is strong enough to embrace what she wants..Mr.Pettifor! This series is absolutely amazing and can't be missed!I would love a part 3!

Ms Darcy and Mr Pettifor have excellent chemistry

These are definitely 18+ short stories.

I enjoyed the Continental Breakfast so much I decided to spend a little more time with these characters. Continental Beginnings is Dom Lite and a fun quick read. Told solely from Mr. Pettifor perspective this tackles the interview in which they met and how the work relationship progressed. It covers only the time before Continental Breakfast and the three months that he was missing during it.

I very much liked getting the male perspective on this story as well and why he was so reluctant to just express himself. It wasn’t a necessary read but since I liked the characters and it was also short I gave it a try. I still liked Continental Breakfast better but reading about some of the other escapades of Ms Darcy and Mr Pettifor was fun, sensual and erotic. Very enjoyable if you liked the first short story.

In honesty, I had not heard of Aldiss before picking up this book. My lovely significant other had brought the book home is it had the short story the 'interesting' A.I. movie was based on (the story Super-toys Last all Summer Long was much better than the film)

The other stand out story (the namesake of the piece) Man in His Time, combines humor technology and prophetic caution together into a witty tale.

Unfortunately the rest of the stories blur together, some had promise, but interesting plotlines became lost behind dithering dialogue and comic yet difficult to like characters. The Saliva Tree, almost Novella length had stronger characters, but by the end of its 60 odd pages I realized I had lost track of what was happening.

To Summarize - read the short stories: Super Toys Last All Summer Long and Man in His Time and you would have got the best from this collection.

At 36, Rapp, an anthropologist at the New School for Social Research, had amnio for her first, wanted, pregnancy. When the results showed Down's syndrome, she chose abortion, with much grief. Her experience led to 15 years of research on how women of many social, economic and religious backgrounds experience genetic testing and how they interpret the information this new medical technology provides. The result is a thoughtful, if concentrated, analysis that is rich with the voices of genetic counselors, lab technicians and geneticists; pregnant women who chose to be tested as well as those who refused; those who got "bad" results; and parents of children with disabilities. In addition to tracing how genetic counselors' focus on individual choice can mask social context, Rapp also reveals how women, with or without their partners, negotiate the important decision whether or not to undergo the test. One chapter dissects the miscommunications that occur when technical language is translated into the vernacular. Another chapter lays bare how expectant parents think about fetal disabilityAand resonates with one concerning parents of disabled children. Rapp concludes that prenatal testing puts women in the role of "moral philosophers," learning to think about statistical risk analysis in relation to the "natural" process of pregnancy. Rapp, a feminist medical anthropologist who chose to terminate a pregnancy after learning that the fetus had Down syndrome, examines the social impact and cultural meaning of the prenatal tests currently available, having interviewed women waiting for test results, deciding whether to continue a pregnancy, or who refused to be tested. By observing genetic counselors at work and talking to families raising children with disabilities, she discovers the practical problems connected with testing and the different responses to pregnancy, family life, and disability in diverse ethnic groups and social classes. Her analysis of the intersection of reproductive and disability rights and their links to feminist and power issues is interesting. This jargon-filled and heavily theoretical work is not for women making decisions about testing, though; Lachlan de Crespigny's Which Tests for My Unborn Baby?: Ultrasound and Other Prenatal Tests (Oxford Univ., 1996) is a good choice for them. How does one, as an anthropologist, write about amniocentesis? Rapp's work redefines the scope of anthropological inquiry helping us look at U.S. culture as an acceptable site of investigation. Focusing on both the "medical establishment" and the "clients" it serves, the book leads us into alternate worlds of creating/inventing medical technology, and delivering medical technology. It is not as simple as putting women through a standardized process; their are questions of individual need, race, spirituality, class, profession, family support, and many other factors that affect the process of amniocentesis and the value of the procedure to the women who receive or refuse the technology. Beautifully written, Rapp follows many threads, both narrative and scientific, to reveal a picture that is not quite so neat.

Interesting but inconclusive

I read Rapp's Testing Women, Testing the Fetus for an anthropology/gender studies class, and as an examination of the way different ethnic groups in NYC approach amniocentesis and prenatal testing as a whole, it might be very interesting.
However, that is not what the book is about. The book is supposed to be about the impact that amniocentesis has on women's lives as they are faced with the decision not only to have the test, but what to do with the information they recieve. But Rapp was so intent on characterizing each of her interview subjects by race, occupation (hence class) and gender, that she ultimately separated and categorized her subjects in ways that left the reader hanging. She did not make any definite conclusions about amniocentesis, only that women make decisions about amnio based on values they had before they even got pregnant, possibly due to ethnicity.
If I were pregnant this book wouldn't help me at all in making a decision. But the chapters on how the tests are analyzed are quite interesting, and the chapters on disability and the way we as a society deals with disabled children in an age when it's easy for them never to be born changed the way I think about disability, and for that reason alone I think it should be read.

Dr. Baumann is Director of Cosmetic Dermatology at the University of Miami, the first such department in the country. She writes chapters for Gellis/Kagan: CURRENT PEDIATRIC THERAPY by WBS and our own DIGM. She is the primary investigator for a wrinkle study conducted by Allergan. She has recently been quoted in TIME Magazine (October 11, 1999 issue) advocating a more cautious approach to cosmetic procedures.

The Best Material Selection book for Chemical plant engineers

I am a senior engineer in Chemical plant leading plant operations, maintenance and design and found that this book is the most useful for material selection. Before I met this book, I have used Material Handbook (Brady,McGraw-Hill), vendor's information and metallurgy expert visiting engineering department. This book saves, say, 80% of those effort and time, thus recovering $200 of the book price. This book and "Corrosion and Corrosion Control",(H.H.Uhlig, Wiley) cover most of daily plant material issues, answering most of the chemical plant day-to-day material selection questions.

The virtue of this book is to stick to practical information. Usually material experts start from fundamental of science and end up with saying that material selection is dependent on situation. But this book provides specific material recommendation in typical corrosive environment. Once they arrive, though, Lacey, the sensible one, sees that things are strange indeed. Peculiar voices speak from nowhere; characters appear and vanish; and something seems to want to keep them, especially panicky and clumsy Charlie, trapped in the manor. And soon enough, he learns that the curse that kept his great-great-uncle trapped in the estate—to sleep in water at night lest he shrivel up and die—is upon him as well. This story contains a good deal of threats, ghosts, and spookiness, but it's dampened by ham-handed humor, and the prose is filled with way too many exclamation points. Eleven-year-old twins Charlie and Lacey are shocked when their mother is contacted by Great-uncle Jonathan’s estate. No one’s heard from him in forever. But it’s been tough times for the family since their dad died, so they’re happy for a free trip to England to learn about their inheritance. Unfortunately, that inheritance comes with a curse that falls right on Charlie. Jonathan sent an innocent man to his death, and now that spirit has his hooks in the male family members until one of them has the courage to face him. This is an amazingly fast-paced story, and amusing to boot. Descriptions of chilly manor houses and chilling cemeteries are here, but mostly there is dialogue propelled with plenty of eerie action on every page. Reluctant readers will especially appreciate how quickly this moves while enjoying every moan and groan. Though Charlie and Lacey are twins, she’s the narrator and seems much older than the rather lumpen Charlie; but when it’s time to face the final fury, they do it together. Grades 3-6. --Ilene Cooper

Practice tests given in this textbook are slightly harder than those that are being sold in main Seoul bookstores, but still real TOEIC exams are way harder than Barron's textbook. That is the only reason I give only 4star review.
