Taking the complication out of golf

After years of lessons and hundreds of dollars spent on equipment seen on the cover, I saw this book and thought, What's the worst that could happen?"

I immediately connected with the theme of letting go and not worrying about what happens on the golf course. Yeah I'll make mistakes, but it's my attitude after the fact that helps me continue working hard. The challenge Mike faced was keeping the process simple enough while also developing a game that was unique to me. The insights helped me defined MY game, not Tiger's, not Mike's, but mine. And that is the great thing about this book.

If you're struggling to stay ahead of the gadgets and other tools golf has now-a-days and want a personalized experience that's simple to pick up and see the results, read and buy this book.

There's stuff in here to like and find useful

3 stars and I'm being charitable. I bought this book on the basis of introductory narrative, the citing of Jack Nicklaus' recommendation and Amazon reviews. There's stuff in here to like and find useful, but in the end (a rather expensive end) this book is not for me. A major premise of the book is to keep things simple. Yet I found the format and the progression of the instruction both over detailed, yet muddied and insufficient. Certainly, a major reason this book is so pricy is that it is entirely in color, AND at 12" x 12", on heavy stock.... It is more of a coffee table book, than the typical golf instruction book you could sneak into your briefcase or take along to the range. Buyer Beware. (I note this review references my purchase of the Kindle edition of this book. I bought the Kindle edition only after purchasing the hardcover edition... finding the hardcover edition very "pretty", but utterly unusable in it's size and weight to be a practical golf instruction manual).

one of the best books I've read on golf.
the industry is ripe with misconceptions and Mike keeps it simple and easy to understand, and therefore implement.
I also watch some of his utube videos and found them very helpful.
He says "golf is a game of control, not power". that really hit home for me

A Valuable Tool

In order to properly evaluate Phil Obal's newest book, "Glossary of Supply Chain Terminology" I feel the need to invent a new acronym as follows; WAMT. In the event that this one is not in Phil's new book allow me to translate the acronym as, "What a Monumental Task". This is perhaps the only way to describe the most complete dictionary of what often appears to be "insider speak". As a supply chain consultant of many years, I still admit that on occasion I am presented with a term or collection of letters that completely baffle me. Of course once you hear the words that made up the acronym, the meaning is clear. I will no longer have to ask my client what in heaven his little acronym means because I can look it up in the "Glossary of Supply Chain Terminology". The book is beautifully arranged not only by particular field of interest but also as a general dictionary or glossary done alphabetically. It appears to be a unique and valuable tool for anyone working in the supply chain both nationally and internationally. The tool is worth far more than its price.

While the phrase "One-stop shop" continues to be overused, it most certainly is not misused when comes to Phil Obal's latest Glossary of Supply Chain Terminology. I was astounded by shear size and completeness of this glossary - you'll be lucky it fits in your laptop bag. Working for several supply chain companies as a project manager, business analyst, and software developer for over 20 years, I was amazed at how much I did not know. If you're one of the rare ones like me, you'll enjoy perusing this book and consistently finding something new. David, IT Director

About the Author
Michael Rouland is a historian of Russia, Central Asia, and Afghanistan. He has published widely on Central Asian cinema, culture, and national identity and since 2003, he has taught courses on Russian, Central Eurasian, and global history at Georgetown, Miami, and Stanford Universities. He is currently an historian for the U.S. Air Force.

Gulnara Abikeyeva is the Artistic Director of the International Eurasia Film Festival. She is the author of five books about cinematography of Kazakhstan and Central Asia and is a member of the FIPRESCI (International Federation of the Cinema Critics) and NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema). She has been a jury member at the Berlin, Jeonju, Karlovy Vary and Anapa film festivals.

Birgit Beumers is Reader in the Russian Department, Bristol University. Her publications include Burnt by the Sun, Nikita Mikhalkov and Russia on Reels: The Russian Idea in Post-Soviet Cinema (as editor), all from I.B.Tauris. She is Editor of KinoKultura, the online film journal.

More geared towards corporate finance than personal finance

Not a bad supplement to an intro finance course. Lots of info, could be used as stanalone text in an MBA course. I feel the text is somewhat dated...but the fundamentals are there. Lots of practice questions at the end of each section to test your understanding and can be used for cfa exam preparation.

Easy and quick reference book on finance

I have to books of this series, Economics and this one, Finance. Both have a similar structure and approach, and I like both. Essentially, the books of the series are designed to serve as reference books that cover the most frequently asked questions and main issues in the respective field. It is how the books are structured and their approach that differ them from many other similar books. The books are divided into short sections each dealing with a particular subject, often formulated as a question. it is thus easy to correlate your question with a relevant section of the book instead of leafing through the book for a long time in an attempt to find the answer. The language is mostly non-technical (to the extent possible) and uses real life examples understandable for non-specialist. If you wish, you can skip more technical details but this will still leave you with a fairly good general understanding of the topic. In my case, the book serves as a reliable and quick reference guide on finance, particularly on investing and financing of projects. .

Dr. Nikbakht essentially breaks down every topic in finance for the reader to really get a grasp on the material, whether you're learning it for the first time or using it as a refresher. Each chapter has numerous conceptual and computational questions for you to truly understand the material. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn what finance is all about.

Accessible Intro To Harmony And Song Structure

This book, along with its companion by the same author, Songwriter's Workshop: Melody, comprise a solid, straightforward course in writing songs along the lines of what I'd (reluctantly) call "classic rock and pop" of the 60's through the 80's. The harmonic vocabulary covered in this volume is comparable to what most guitar-oriented songwriters

used then and continue to: open position chords with descending bass lines, major triads with thirds and fifths in the bass, etc. It may be a sign of the times at Berklee or, more

likely, just the author's orientation but you won't find jazz/show tune techniques here nor Steely Dan changes so if that's more your cup of joe, I'd recommend Jack Perricone's "Melody in Songwriting" which makes a great followup to this series.

But otherwise, there's little prior knowledge assumed (other than an interest in and listening experience to a wide range of songs) and much to be learned.

Kachulis's approach is to build up song structures by having you focus on individual elements: groove, chord color, modal chord progressions over small sections building to contrasts

over larger forms. Always refering to an example song or to the accompanying recording the approach is logical, and it should work for those requiring different levels of handholding and validation. You can imitate the examples closely or just

glean from the principles, going your own way.

And let's face it: Many of the points about song structure are just as applicable whether your composing German Lieder, folk ballads, cabaret torch songs or a neo-prog synth-drenched epic.

Useless without solutions to exercises

I bought the book for a course of self study. There are a lot of exercises in the book, which is great, and obviously critical to one's learning progress, but there are no solutions either in the book or anywhere on line. I attempted to use berklee's web site to ask the question about finding solutions, but it kept rejecting my question so I emailed "customer service". They told me they were too busy to answer and that I should use the web site to ask questions. Guess I won't be buying any more of their books or signing up for any of their courses.

As Lynne Curry shows, that was the central question at issue when Melody DeShaney initially sued Wisconsin for failing to protect her battered son Joshua from her estranged husband, thus violating her son's constitutional right to due process. The resulting case, DeShaney v. Winnebago County (1989), was a highly emotional one pitting the family against the state and challenging our views on domestic relations, child abuse, and the responsibilities and limits of state action regarding the private lives of citizens.

The Supreme Court's controversial decision ruled that the Constitution was intended to limit state action rather than oblige the state to interfere in private affairs. In other words, it viewed the Due Process Clause as a limitation on the state's power to act, not a guarantee of safety and security, not even for children who depend on the state for their very survival. In this first book-length analysis of the case, Curry helps readers understand how considerations of "what should be" in an undeniably tragic case are not always reflected in legal reasoning.

Curry brings to light details that have been ignored or neglected and covers both the criminal and civil proceedings to retell a story that still shocks. Drawing on legal briefs and social work case files, she reviews the legal machinations of the state and includes personal stories of key actors: family members, social workers, police officers, child advocates, and opposing attorneys. She then clearly analyzes the majority and dissenting opinions from the Court, as well as reactions from the court of public opinion.

Well written account of a tragic case.

I am ashamed to say that I know a few of the people involved in this horrible case. This book is written in a journalistic style, the author depicts the facts with little emotion. She doesn't need to sensationalize the facts, they speak for themselves. I do think the book would've been more powerful if she'd included pictures of Joshua and his abusive father. And the social worker involved. I changed my opinion of some Supreme Court justices after reading this book. The fact that our local social worker's lack of action resulted in leaving an innocent child severely retarded (with half a brain) is so appalling. Someone should be accountable. No one was. Our local police and our local newspaper are also accountable for their support of the errant social worker. "Poor Joshua" and shame on you, the State of Wisconsin and it's social workers.

Extremely detailed

I am impressed that Curry was able to write an entire book about one case without it becoming boring. She provided a great in depth look at the case, the people involved in the case, and the legal system involved. I would recommend this to anyone interested in court proceedings or child rights.

Another example of truly bad writing and absolutely worth the price $00.00.

I found the unusual plot of this amateur writer amusing and bizarre. Imagine a country where the women dress and act like men and the men are mere breeding stock and wear dresses and act like little girls. The hero appears to actually have balls. This amateur desperately needs someone to edit her writing attempts. The last third of this book contains so many grammatical errors and typos, it is difficult to read.

This book was bad! Primarily due to a lack of editing. Seriously the book was ok as far as plot and characters are concerned. Not great but decent. The series has heart. I like that. The editing is horrible. Pull all three books in the series and go over them again. Then release them again. the stories will improve a hundred fold. I guarantee it. There were times that I had to stop and puzzle out what was written so that I could move on.

I know this is a duplicate of my review of book 2 in this series. I just really think this book should not be seen in public without having been edited.

It's like indecent exposure but not in a good way.

I liked the series so far

I liked the series so far, simple as that. When I first picked the first book it looked familiar another story like it came out a a while ago and I noticed a few people commenting on it. Like all books story lines and plots can be changed and this one was one of them. the characters I thought were alive and you got to feel for them. This being the third book had some nice twists and some sad endings. So I would recommend these books. It was a great read and enjoyable.

A charming love story

Sometimes the choices we make for the good of the ones we love turn out to be the worst decisions for ourselves. Jacie didn’t want her daughter, Darby, to ever feel that her mom wasn’t in her corner first and always. Not like her own mother who had taken Jacie’s stepfather’s side always even when his actions were abusive or just simply wrong. She would never, ever give a man the chance to do to her daughter what had been done to her.

The trouble with that kind of logic is that you also miss out on the awesome things that letting another person be a part of your life could bring. It’s going to take Jacie a while to see that. Maybe once some of her own ghosts are laid to rest. Perhaps with the help of a horse crazy nine year old who sees all too clearly what her mom wants but is afraid to reach out for. And just possibly with the security of the man who loves her and has always had her back Jacie can make that commitment.

Brett has always been attracted to Jacie. So when she’d asked him to marry her in order to keep her from even more trouble from her stepfather he hadn’t hesitated. Unfortunately, he’d never had the chance to see if they might have made their unexpected marriage work since Jacie never showed up at the courthouse on their wedding day. Now here she was, back in Cherry Lake and looking even more tempting and being even more stubborn. The spark was still there between them. If only Jacie could see that Brett would protect Darby from hurt and harm as much, if not even more so than he would Jacie.

The Secret Bride is a lovely story, one of those happy and sad ones, where what could have been almost messes up what should have been. With drama caused by Jacie’s former stepfather and his minions at her new position – and with Jacie blocking just about every advancement that Brett makes, well it’s going to be a long hot summer as these two figure out that the past is just that. And the future could be theirs if they take the risk.

I enjoyed The Secret Bride very much. And I’m hoping that there will be many more stories from Cherry Lake in the future. It happened in Marietta, so why not here. *hopeful grin* I would recommend this one for any romance reader who enjoys a really good love story, with family and heritage at the forefront and a happy ever after.

A second chance for love.

Ten years ago, Jacie Rose left Cherry Lake. Before doing so, she left Brett Jackson waiting at the courthouse where they were supposed to be getting married.

Jacie has returned to her hometown to oversee the Montreau Hotel renovation. Jacie didn’t expect to be renting a house right next door to Brett. Brett has always wondered why Jacie stood him up on their wedding day without any explanation.

Jacie's daughter, Darby, starts attending horse camp with Brett's cousin Molly, which leads Jacie and Brett to seeing each much more than expected. Then, one night Brett kisses Jacie. Everything changes after that. Will this finally be their time to be together? Or is it just too late for them?

This was an easy book to get hooked on. I enjoyed how Jacie and Brett got reacquainted and seeing Jacie’s friendship with Lil and Molly grow. Georgia and Clinton drove me nuts and I could feel Jacie's tension with dealing with them on the renovation job. All around, this is a great book.

It's Never too Late for Love

I absolutely adore all the Secrets of Cherry Lake books that I have read. Each one weaves small town peculiarities with love. In The Secret Bride, Jacie Rose returns to Cherry Lake to face not only the peculiarities but also her evil step-father and her once really good friend, Brett. Her father sets out to destroy her career as a structural engineer. Brett just wants an answer to why she asked him to marry her ten years ago when she learned she was pregnant with no idea where the father was and then she left him at the courthouse when she ran off.
I loved the funny/cute fumbling and bumbling between Jacie and Brett. Jacie's daughter, Darby, rings true of a nine year old in her personality and tendencies.
It is a thoroughly enjoyable story.
