Good book for a woodstove like Little House on the Prairie

I bought this book because we have a woodstove for heating the house. I was hoping this book would show me how to cook and bake using it, rather than my electric stove, for times we lose electricity or to save money (no reason to use an electric stove, if my woodstove is already going.) It's geared towards a woodstove with cooking lids, like Ma Ingalls had. It still has recipes that I can use, like for stews or chilis using the Dutch oven or skillet. It has a lot of information about the proper installation, ways to install an oven or a smoker and how to buy a used one at an auction or flea market (what to look for, how to repair it and how to say "no way, I'll pass" on ones that have what looks like a minor flaw, but actually render the stove useless. It also has numerous addresses for replacement parts that you may need to order, if you have something become inoperable on the one you own.) I think it's a good investment if you actually intend to alter recipes to work on a heat-producing woodstove, rather than a cookstove. If you don't want to try the try-and fail method for the heat-producing stove, then pass on the book. Personally, I like it.

I liked the many tips for cooking on a woodstove, I would have liked a few more recipes. I keep it with my cast iron cookware and will be very pleased with the cooking tips if I ever need to cook on our woodstove.

Good quick read, bit dated, but still useful

Has some interesting, if somewhat dated, info. Modern stoves and buying processes are somewhat different nowadays. Some interesting recipes to try. Worth a quick read if you really use/ want to use your stove to cook.
