Good in parts but heroine lacks some resolve

Sometimes heroine Kate acts quite admirably in The Secret She Can't Hide and other times, she is irrational and so impetuous a reader wonders if she can really learn from her mistakes.
Kate meets race car driver Cristiano Maresca and within twenty four hours is in bed with him. Cristiano is in a horrible car accident the next day and hospitalized. When the sweet Kate tries to visit she is turned away. Later Kate discovers she is pregnant and again tries to contact Cristiano. No reply is forthcoming from the ladies' man so she goes on with her life raising her son with no assistance from his father.
Later she feels the strong need to tell Cristiano about his son and she tracks him down to find an altered man. Cristiano is distant and he has no memory of Kate due to his brain injury in the car crash. He is desperate to regain missing parts of his life and he whisks a willing Kate to a secluded cabin believing she can help him fill in the gaps.
These two still have the hots for each other and they wind up in the same situation they found themselves in years earlier, in bed with no commitments. Kate doesn't really try very hard to tell Cristiano about their son and when she must return to her son she still leaves without saying a word. This is where Kate is emotional and reckless, falling back into the same predicament with Cristiano.
Cristiano does find out about his son and he is admirable in that he never questions the paternity but takes to his son right away and his feelings are reciprocated in his son. Kate still cannot figure out where her feelings lie when it comes to Cristiano.
I found Kate to be at times reasonable and she is admirable in that she wants her son to know his father so she puts aside her own fears initially. But she loses some of her strength when Cristiano enters the picture. Then she is self-motivated and overly protective. This tale has some pizzazz but I wished Kate had some fortitude when it came to dealing with Cristiano.

Good writing and story but with parts lacking sense.

Kate Edwards had a one night affair with Formula One race driver, Cristiano Maresca, four years ago when she interviewed him for a sponsor company. The affair resulted in a pregnancy and a son but Cristiano had no idea of the child or any recollections of Kate due to amnesia induced by a racing crash the morning after their affair. The story takes place four year after the crash and Kate came upon a chance to meet and maybe tell Cristiano about their son. Cristiano recovered from the crash but lost memory of the 24 hour time period before the race which happened to span his whole involvement with Kate. Cristiano met Kate at a promotional party celebrating his re-entrance into the racing world after the crash and he was instantly drawn to her even without remembering who she was. He spirited her away to a chalet in the mountain hopefully to help him remember the missing 24 hours. I was pretty satisfied and intrigued with the story up until this point. Once they reached the chalet instead of doing some serious talking about their past connections they chose to spark the memory with physical connections and sex. They didn't do much other than having sex for two whole days there, in the meantime she was testing him to see if he was worthy of getting to know the existence of their son. There were some missed opportunities for good conversations, he didn't even ask too many questions about her but was hoping sex will help him remember and when he does he will leave her and go back to his old life. He was attracted to her but didn't care to find out why they have such a connection that Kate gave him her virginity. He was too busy wallowing in his own pity most of the time.
Here are a couple parts of the story that just doesn't make sense. When he finds out that Kate has a son back home it didn't even come up to him that there is a possibility that he may be his son. Given that he has no recollection of the time after he slept with Kate he wouldn't know whether she was pregnant by him or not, wouldn't he at least be curious and ask her if that could be his son? Kate prepared a letter for Cristiano in case she didn't have the courage or chance to tell him about his son but she knows from their one night affair that he is dyslexic and can't read so why would she write him a letter? Also, I am sort of tired of the ever accepting and welcoming children in the HP world. Every kid seemed to accept and love their missing or absent parent(s) instantly upon reunion. My experience with kids in the REAL world is that they are usually a little reluctant or sometimes even downright hostile toward strangers and it takes both time and patience to gain their trust. I guess page limits and limited space makes for some allowance in Romancelandia.
All in all it is an okay read, mostly due to Ms. Grey's capable writing but not as emotional as it should be. The ending was pretty romantic and nicely done though, it could have been an ending from a romance movie. The four or five love scenes were kind of short and choppy rather than the usual two or three detailed ones (but more emotionally satisfying)from other authors. I did like that the Hero was a race driver, I was getting bored with all the billionaire tycoons and sheikhs.

4 out of 5 stars!! This fast-paced, drama-filled, roller coaster of a novel was one I didn't want to put down!! I loved how this story flows from the scenes surrounding Cristiano's crash to Kate and Cristiano's reunion to how they try to work it all out in the end it was just great. Kate is a bundle of nerves that life just keeps proving to her that she should worry about the things she does. Cristiano believes that he needs to prove himself to everyone no matter the cost. Somehow, they just seem to work together.
I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading stories about racecar drivers and/or anyone who just enjoys romance novels!
